Domestic Toursts Flood Bali

July 2nd, 2008

Flooding domestic tourists during the school holiday translated Bali which most of the time is visited by foreign tourist into domestic holiday island within the last few days. Domestic tourist domination significantly increase closing to weekends. Among indicators are over occupation of Sentral Parkir Kuta by hundreds of coaches, as well as traffic congestions especially around tourist attraction.

Tourism objects especially those which are popular to domestic tourists such as Kuta, Sanur, Garuda Wisnu Kencana, Uluwatu, Sukawati Art Market as well as Bedugul, Kintamani, and Besakih temple at Karangasem regency are full of domestic tourist mostly are high school students on holiday.

Traffic congestions are mostly caused by convoying tourist coaches occupying narrow streets especially close to tourist attractions like Kuta, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua. Denpasar which normally is packed with local activity is rather quiet, except Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan Teuku Umar, and Simpang Enam, all the way from Kuta to Jalan Nusa Kambangan where the lately very popular souvenir shops Erlangga 1 and Erlangga 2 are located.

Additionally, related to the one full month event of Bali Annual Arts Festival 2008, Jalan Hayam Wuruk and Jalan Nusa Indah are packed of vehicles and pedestrians going in and out of Bali Art Centre when the event is held.

Kuta, the most popular beach for domestic tourists as well as home to a number of low-price accommodations is obviously the busiest among all others. Coaches are not allowed to get into Kuta, they are all buffered at Sentral Parkir Kuta, where tourists then take  smaller tourist transporters taking them to both the beach as well as one of the most popular souvenir shops, Joger.

Traffic from Sentral Parkir Kuta to the beach is rather packed and cars can only move very slowly. Whilst coaches are not allowed to enter, the streets are occupied by tourists which partly prefer to walk instead of taking the transporters. In addition to cost, transporter car is not sufficiently available to anticipate such an explosion.
