Tourism Revitalization in Ubud

July 6th, 2008

To eliminate crowds which affect comfortability of visiting tourists, the government of Gianyar regency undertook a number of efforts including rearranging traffic and parking space in the tourism center of Ubud, especially around Ubud Market. Among the solutions introduced was a trial period for making Jalan Cok Putra Sudarsana - the main street of Ubud in front of the market - between BPD Bali and Catus Pata two directions and making it parking free. The trial period will be appliend between July 4th and July 11th 2008.

Before implementation of the trial period, Jalan Cok Putra Sudarsana was one way street, from Catus Pata to the east, and crowded parking were taking up a big part of the street resulting traffic congestion. The idea of the new arrangements was a result of evaluation made by The Public Traffic Department of Gianyar Police Headquarter and Gianyar Office of The Ministry of Transportation, which then finalized in a common agreement with local authorities of Ubud.

It was commonly agreed that parking is prohibited along Jalan Monkey Forest from Balai Banjar Ubud Kelod through Catus Pata. Only short stop for pick-up and drop off of tourist transports and public transports are allowed.

The spokesman of Gianyar regent I Wayan Arthana, S.H. informed that traffic rearrangement is a government effort to revitalize Ubud into a comfortable tourism center. Most of Ubud residents appreciate the effort as expressed in a short interview between A.A. Unyil - a driver of public transport car whose route include Ubud downtown - and Bali Post. Traveling along Jalan Cok Putra Sudarsana a number of times every day he knows exactly that the street - especially in front of Ubud Market - has been always crowded with tourist and public transport cars as well as pedestrians.  “We hope for successful trial and further implementation,” said Unyil.

The first day of trial period - which was started on 17.30 this morning - was monitored by a number of related officials.

    Tourism Revitalization in Ubud…

Being the center of Bali heritage of arts and culture Ubud attracts a lot of interests. Unfortunately weak traffic management causes traffic congestion at the always crowded main street where Ubud market and the royal palace are located….
