Abandoned Bali Festival Park

November 13th, 2008

Continuation of the construction of recreational area Bali Festival Park on Padanggalak beach is now in question. Abandoned project intended to be the city recreational park becomes visually irritating to the beautiful beach in the area. Therefore the provincial government of Bali is asked to take over the management of the area. It is reported that there are wild animals - a species of alligator - in the area. Being abandoned for too long, those animals can become a threat to the safety of those spending their time on the beach or just passing over the area.

Chairman of C-Commission of Bali Provincial House of Representative (DPRD Bali) Ir. I.B. Gede Udiyana accompanied by a member of the commission I Wayan Mariyana Wandhira, S.T. at his office on Wednesday (November 12th) asked Bali Provincial Government to immediately take strategic action to save the areal. Udiyana envisioned that the area is quite potential to be developed as a recreational park for Denpasar residents. He reckon that at the moment Denpasar is lack of recreational areas which are attractive enough to be visited by families.

Both house members share similar opinion that abandoned area of Bali Festival Park brings irritation to the area. They are also worried that presence of wild animals in the area will make a harm to residents in the surrounding area as so far those animals are not well taken care of including their feedings, especially if they can somehow get themselves out of the area and enter residential areas. “Without proper care those alligators can be harmful of the get away,” said Wandhira.

Udiyana expected that either Provincial Government of Bali or the Govenrment of Denpasar city to coordinate action to save assets which have potential to be developed into new recreational objects for the residents. At least the recreational site located on the beach at the south-east coast of Bali is well taken care as at the moment the area is completely abandoned and full of wild shrubs including the former Penyu Dewata swimming pool.
