Information Booth is a Waste Without the Machine

November 17th, 2008

Presence of tourist information booth in the area of Goa Lawah, Pesinggahan, Dawan has invited criticism from the people living in the surrounding area. The problem is that after one year since the the building located next to the police post, it does not work as the tourist information machine has not been in place. The people was disappointed by the absence of follow up from related government institution, which is the tourism office of Klungkung regency.

So far the small building has only been serving as a functionless showcase. “What is the meaning of making the building without getting it to work? The area of Goa Lawah has been reconstructed to make it spaceful and comfortable. Putting a useless building is adding up a distraction,” voiced local residents.

Strangefully local residents know that there is a tourist information machine located inside a room at Bali Tourism Office of Klungkung. “No tourists are visiting their office. Why don’t they just put that machine at Goa Lawah and make it usefull. The building will then functions as it is supposed to, helping tourists visiting Klungkung, especially the area of Goa Lawah,” they added.

When asked for confirmation by BaliPost reporter on Sunday (November 16), the Head of Tourism Office of Klungkung Nengah Wijana - who said that he was in Makassar on an official trip - admitted the presence of building for tourist information machine in Goa Lawah. Unfortunately he could not say anithing about it as he does not now the situation precisely. “Both the building and equipments are an assistance from the central government,” said Wijana. He said that he has frequently asked when the tourist information machine at Goa Lawah will arrive, to which the central government asked him to be patient. “It is an assistance, so we have nothing else to do but to wait,” he added.

With regard to relocation of the machine currently located in his office, Wijana informed that technical reason does not allow it to happen. The machine located in the tourism office was designed for indoor use whilst the building at Goa Lawah was designed to accomodate an indoor type.
