North Badung is Ideal for Ecotourism

Northern area of Badung regency is considered ideal for natural based tourism. Geographical condition of the area perfectly fits the purpose. However a number of obstacles have been identified for effective implementation. Vice-Chairman of Badung House of Representatives (DPRD Badung) I Gst. Putu Karmaadi explained that among those obstacles are license and local infrastructure.

Therefore he suggests the provincial government especially Bali Tourism Office to pay attention and join into a cooperation to develop northen area of Badung to become a new tourist attraction. “For example with a number of beautiful rivers with fast running stream, the area is ideal for white water rafting which combines adventure and natural attraction. Proper exploitation to this potential is important to improve welfare of local residents,” said Karmaadi in an interview after a nature trekking event for DPRD Badung at Petang village on Sunday (November 23rd).

Similar opinion was expressed by an owner of rafting tour operator in Petang. The village has a significant potential for tourism including its natural and cultural attration. However he reminds that exploitation should focus on local resources. The bad example of Bali tourism development which mostly dominated by foreign investments, employed foreign work force, and brought in attraction from outside the area has to be avoided.

Furthermore Karmaadi said if the government of Badung regency intensify utilization of local potentials, tourism potential of the northern area of the regency is expected to be able to support local economy. This way the welfare gap between north Badung and the southern region where popular tourism spots like Kuta and Nusa Dua are located will be minimized.
