Increasing number of illegal villas within the area of Gianyar regency has finally attracted attention of the regency government. Revealed in a meeting at the office of Gianyar government secretariat on Wednesday (May 6th), the government will start law enforcement will be started by data validation.

The meeting was chaired by the government secretary (Sekda) Cokorda Putra Nindia and attended by related officials including tourism office, treasury office, integrated permit bureau, public works office, administrative police, and economic department. Those involved in the force were instructed to validate the latest data on presence of private villas both which built with and without proper legality. In addition to law enforcement, data validation is also important to get better picture on potential source of the government’s income.

Sekda Nindia explained that validation on presence of villas in Gianyar regency was considered important due to a significant number of evidence that many private villas are taking commercial tenants in form of holiday rental accommodation. These villas are expected to immediately apply for proper operational permit.

However so far the government has not set a deadline for completion of villa validation as there are many villas in Gianyar which needs reassessment. He also suggested that all village heads to actively assist the regency government in the activity by validating number of private villas located in their respective administration.

Whilst Gianyar government does not have valid data on private villas, mapping of economic potential of Gianyar of 2008 shows that there are 59 hotels, 446 motels, 12 star-rated hotels, 137 melati-rated hotels.
