Election Increases Business Confidence

July 9th, 2009

Presidential election which has been completed smoothly will birng a positive impact in business confidence as well as strengthen trust of international community. “It is very positive in fastening economic growth”, Chairman of Bali Chapter of Indonesian Employers Association, Panudiana Kuhn said in Denpasar.
He further pointed to the fact that Indonesia is now the third largest demotcratic country of the world. Success of conducting the most critical democratic event, presidential election, will draw positive remarks not only in the country but from international community as well. “Along with the trust, investment will grow faster”, Kuhn, who runs various businesses, said.

For this reason he hopes that the elected leader can maintain the trust both in the country as well as from other countries. Kuhn further exposed several problems which are still burdening business in the country including law certainty, long bureaucratic procedure in license approval, and bank interest rate. These issues have to get proper attention in the future to make investment flow event easier.

He admitted that investment in Indonesia has been positively growing during the last few years. Even in global financial crisis Indonesia is still recording significant growth whilst many other countries experiencing negative growth. Therefore having successful presidential election on top of that strong foundation gives us every reasons we need to be optimistic.  “Yes we are optimistic that economic situation is going to be even better after this presidential election”, he said.

Meanwhile during the election day business activities in Denpasar got almost paralyzed. Offices were closed as the govenrment declared it as a national holidays, many shops were closed, streets were quiet. Whilst most people went to election booths early in the morning, most spent the rest of the day to relax or watch the preliminary count.
