Efforts on protection of sea turtle in Bali is considered very strategic as this species is needed in certain religious rituals. Therefore all components of Balinese community is expected to get themselves contribute. “I believe that everybody can get themselves directly involved in protection of sea turtle”, the area coordinator of technical execution unit of Bali forestry office, Kamboya, when releasing baby turtles at Kuta beach.

The event of releasing baby turtles was among a series of activities related to the first anniversary of communication forum for forestry functional officials of Bali (Forkom PFKPB). Related to its first anniversary, Forkom PFKPB holds a number of activities related to environmental conservation, including releasing baby turtles to the open sea.

Accompanied by the Chairman of Forkom PFKPB, Ketut Gede Yasa, Kamboya exposed that the activities are an expression of their commitment to contribute in preserving presence of sea turtle in Bali. By this activity a balance between catching and releasing can be achieved to ensure their continuous existence.

Releasing of baby turtle is among direct contribution to preservation of sea turtle. Promoting involvement in presevation of sea turtle is even more important than any other species as sea turtle is needed as essential part of important religious rituals. “By this action we hope that existence of sea turtle in Bali will continue”, he added.

Released baby turtles are expected to become mothers to more for continuous natural reproduction cycles. Babies released at certain place will be back to make their eggs when they grow. If the cycle goes on undisturbed, presence of sea turtle will continue.
