Green Belt in Canggu

September 4th, 2009

In response to increasing number of construction built on green belt area, the government of Badung regency will apply strict law enforcement on the violation conduct. The administrative police (Satpol PP) of Badung regency has already held a list of hundred of violation records. Violation in Canggu and North Kuta areas will be the first in the schedule. Chief of Satpol PP Badung, Wayan Adi Arnawa told the press on Thursday, September 3rd.

At the moment, Satpol PP Badung has already held the authority to immediately take law enforcement strike on violation of green belt. The authority was officially delivered through the instruction letter issued by the regent himself. “Authority has been granted to us. We have received a letter from the regent to take immediate action to enforce law on violation of green belt”, Arnawa said.

However, Arnawa could not confirm the schedule yet. At the moment his office is still fully occupied by demolition of of illegal cellular phone towers. With regard to the form of violation, Arnawa put anything built on the land, from huts to permanent building.

Green belt violation is not only taking place in Canggu area. The list on Arnawa’s pocket also records similar violation in other areas such as Mengwi, Abiansemal, and Kerobokan. At the moment, Badung is the only regency introducing the initiative. If other regencies and cities in Bali are taking similar action, there should be even a lot more.
