September 9th, 2009

Malaysian market is one of the main feeders of foreign tourists to Indonesia. To attract even more business, the Managing Director of Merry’s Tour & Travel services, Misto Leo Faisal, said that tour agents in Indonesia, including Bali, have been offering discount on tour packages in promotion event in Malaysia. Discounts are expected to motivate more Malaysian to spend their holiday in Bali or other Indonesian destinations.

Faisal further said that number of visiting Malaysian tourists remained normal. However number visiting Malaysian tourists to Bali in September is showing a decrease due to the Moslem’s fasting month. The figure is expected to increase back during and after Idul Fitri holidays.

He further explained that there is an bi-annual tourism promotion event held in Kuala Lumpur every March and September.  The event is participated by various components of tourism industry including travel agents, hotels, and other components.  Almost all participants promote their tour packages by offering special prices, especially to those making their booking for the next six months.

Discount is offered based on natural characteristic of Malaysian tourists which normally choose those who offer bigger discount. Chairman of Tourism Compartment of Bali Young Entrepreneur Association (HIPMI Bali) said that travel agents focusing in Malaysian market normally offer between 10% to 20% discount, which enthusiastically responded both by end users as well as Malaysian travel agents. The most popular product is 3 nights – 4 days packages with discount. Obviously the most popular Indonesian destination is Bali followed by Bandung, Bukit Tinggi, Jogjakarta, Solo, Surabaya, Medan, and Jakarta.

Representative of Bali Lover Community believed that Bali was chosen as a favorite tourist destination for cultural and natural attractions. The situation was supported by availability of cheap fare airliner connecting Malaysia to Bali and other Indonesian tourist destinations.
