Omega Group Kyowa, a Japanese marine research and development center celebrated its first anniversary in Seminyak. In the event, Chairman of Omega Group Kyowa, Kimiya Homma, stressed the importance of marine research and development to improve health.

Kimiya exposed that now Omega has capability to produce bottled drinking water by processing deep sea water. At the moment Omega is researching mixture of deep sea water and conventional fertilizer for cultivation of vegetables and rice in Petang. “One year has quickly passed through, and a number of result have been delivered to help community in improving their life”, he said.

To improve their ability, Omega has opened a branch office in Sapporo, Japan, and will soon open another offices in Biak, Papua and Jakarta. More offices are coming both in Japan and Southeast Asia. “During one year of its existence, Omega has made various efforts, and a lot more to come in the future”, Kimiya said.

Director of Fishery of the Ministry for Marine and Fishery, Made Nurjana,said that at the moment Japan is still the main destination of Indonesian marine products. Presence of Omega has opened the eyes of both the government and the people of Indonesia on magnificent resources in Indonesian waters. Nurjana further admitted that so far Indonesian marine potential has not been exploited to the optimum extend. Omega’s presence offers a new hopes as in addition to production and marketing of marine product, the company also conduct research and development which brings benefits. “In a very short period Omega has done a lot for Indonesia, especially in marine biology and deep sea waters”, he said.

The event was also attended by Japanese Consul in Denpasar, Eiichi Suzuki, Manager of Omega’s Sapporo branch office, Keiichi Nekomiya, Commissioner of Omega who is also a professor at Bogor Agriculture Institute, Bonar P. Pasaribu, and a professor of Tokai University, Toshitsugu Sakou.
