Undersea Disruption, Bali Covered in Dark
Denpasar – Bali Island around 19.05 Wita –Middle Indonesian Time- was covered in dark. The source of the problem was the disruption of the undersea cable of electrical supply from Java to Bali.
“Black out happened for about 22 minutes. This event may occur caused by the bad weather like thunder or storm,” as been said be the General Manager of PLN –National Electric Power Station- Bali Distribution, Arifudin Nurdin, on Wednesday at Denpasar.
However, the electric supply around Denpasar ran over again around 22.00 Wita –Middle Indonesian time- the electric disruption in Bali was due to the first cable disorder under the sea.
Those disruption cables, said Arifudin, have 100 megawatts in capacity. It effected in the derivation of electric supply, subsequently made the electrical power supply in Bali couldn’t bear it.
At the same time, two electrical power supplies in Bali are in a maintenance period.
And when the disruption happened, the electricity utilized in Bali was in its highest peak that was around 460 megawatt. The supply capacity in Java itself was around 562 megawatt.
Around 2009, this event had been count as the second to happened, first it happened last May, caused by the disruption of Electricity in Banyuwangi, East Java.
Ideally Bali should build their own electric power supply therefore they wouldn’t depended on the electric power supply in Java,” said Arifudin.
