Coconut prize rise, Marakas Craftsman Shriek

Mendoyo, marakas craftsman at Poh Santen village, Mendoyo shriek due to the price of the basic material of music instrument made from coconut shell rise up. This can threaten the life of marakas craftsmen which leaned their life in it.

Gede Agus Ciawan, one of the craftsman when contacted, Friday (25/9) admitted that some of marakas craftsmen in his area still shadowed by anxiety due to the high price of one coconut in market. Even once in the past, one coconut can reach five thousand Rupiah per piece.

”But art shop didn’t care bout that, if we want to raise the price they will take the same product from Bandung but which is more cheap,” people of Banjar Rangdu, Poh Santen, Mendoyo, complained.

Agus admitted that to solve this price problem of thus basic material his party has deposed some employments. “Moreover it cause my company had in a dead set. Fortunately that condition was not long, now the company had already recovered,” he said.

According to him, at Poh Santen village there are marakas craftsmen, including him. But all of them are able to produce maracas in a huge number since they lack of budget.

Agus also said that beside worried about the price of the coconut, this business started to be competed by the same product from Bandung. Though, according to Agus, if compared with Bandung, the product produce by his company is smoother in its surface and has better finishing.

“We produce according to order. Each day we could make 150 music instruments with 15 employees,”he declared.
