Angklung and Gamelan also been Recommended to Unesco

October 3rd, 2009

Former Minister of Culture and Tourism that is now the member of House of People’s Representative of Demokrat party said that angklung and gamelan art is in a process of recommendation to Unesco as the genuine culture of Indonesian people.

“I was in a process to recommend other culture which is still in process, they are angklung and gamelan. Furthermore we look for Indonesian culture that is in danger for being taken by another nation will be immediately will be listed into Unesco,” he said to the press in the House of People’s Representative at Jakarta on Friday.

Today, Unesco had acknowledged and appointed batik as Indonesian cultural heritage. Besides batik, another culture that had been appointed as Indonesian cultural heritage is wayang and keris.
If the recommendation of angklung and gamelan is acknowledged again as Indonesian cultural heritage, the society together with the government should keep maintained those heritages while suggesting another culture that is need to become national asset.

Wacik wish for Indonesian government totally maintaining its culture and in the context of world acknowledgement toward batik, all society should not stop at there, after winning the struggle of acknowledgement then get lazy to use it.

Whereas the member of DPR/MPR member (House of People Representative/People Representative Council) of PKB party, Anna Mu’awanah said that Indonesian people need to appreciate Unesco for their effort and willingness to appointed batik as Indonesian cultural heritage.

“I give my appreciation for Unesco. That consolidation as tremendous dispersion,” he said.

According to that woman politician, with the acknowledgement of batik as Indonesian cultural heritage, at least it will give kind of awareness for Indonesian people with their lack of appreciation for their own culture.
Unesco protection according to her will become law’s umbrella that is stronger for the effort of Indonesia heritage culture maintenance and at the same time also stand as a evidence for the amazing culture Indonesia had.
