Galungan first time celebrated was around 804 Caka year or in ninth century, the age of Sri Kesari Warmadewa kingdom. The celebration of Galungan day was born after a huge disaster happened to humankind. In 2009, this means that Galungan had been celebrated for 1.127 years. Then, what kind of meaning it has for us? Is it enough with only celebrate it as for the victory of Dharma –good- against Adharma –evil-

The spiritual figure Ida Pedanda Made Gunung said that the long history of this galungan celebration should make Hindu’s people more understand and significance the meaning of Galungan itself. Don’t make Galungan is used as a chance for gambling or get drunk which is easily cause criminality. Subsequently will harm the holy purpose of Galungan itself that is should become better from years to years.

The Mayor of Denpasar, I.B. Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra, S.E., M.Si wish for the people thought Galungan as a valuable chance to introspect themselves and prepare for better life. People shouldn’t get drawn with the glamour of overact parties that are intoxicating and misleading. Instead they are intended to celebrate that big and holy day with simplicity and honest service toward Ida Shang Hyang Widhi Waca.

From philosophical point of view, said the son of formerly IB Mantra Governor, the celebration of Galungan is compulsorily means by Hindu’s people to hold on every bad thought and negative behavior. People shouldn’t get drawn with celebration only. But, they also demanded to maintain Dharma that has already won. With that they wouldn’t get lost in the darkness of life.

Rai Mantra asserted the most important thing that is shall done in Galungan Day is conducting moratorium –silence for a while-. Since, in this state, they have chance to introspect themselves.

Besides, people should frequently increase their sradha bakti –loyalty and service- toward Ida Shang Hyang Widhi Wasa also grown brotherhood feeling between religious communities to triggers shanty –peace- in people life. This also the right moment for us to back to ourselves as Balinese people that always make solidarity and respect each other as the number one aspect. Together with mulatsarira –meeting families- that is a momentum to keep peace and harmony in Denpasar also Bali in general.

Very Deep

Ida Pedanda Gede Putra Bajing said that galungan is a symbol of Dharma’s victory against adharma. The reflection of Galungan has holy deep values. As Dharma word itself which is wide in meaning. Dharma is not only doing your duty correctly according your profession and department. It also implemented good thing according to the literature meaning. Weda itself is Dharma that has to be realized. As a simple example as a good community is behave ethically and knows manner. “The way we talk is the reflection of our soul. If it is good, have manner and according to the ethic that man soul must be cool, peace and clear,” said Ida Pedanda from Geria Tegaljinga, Sumerta Kaja.

Have religion in Bali, he said, very specific. Because in reality religion in Bali is wrapped with thick tone of art and culture. Though, if want to conduct it honestly then there is no serious problem at all.

Three Enemies

Ida Pedanda Gede Putra Tembau from Geria Aan, Banjarangkan, Klungkung asserted that the celebration of Galungan day is a remembrance message to all of Hindu’s people to control themselves to defeat enemies, whether from inside or outside the body. Especially from the inside, if human able to control his inside enemy then to defeat the outside enemy can be considered as an easy task.

According to Ida Pedanda, who said that when Galungan or dungulan, Hindu’s should focus with Yadnya –service and offering- preparation of Galungan day. Have fun and confabulated with friends no need to make it too extreme instead done it according to your ability. Since Galungan is only celebration.
According to him, Galungan is enough with bebantenan –offering- in term of soda putih kuning- white and yellow offering- dedicated to Ida Shang Hyang widhi Wasa and ancestor also segahan for bhuta kala. “Difference with piodalan –holy ceremony- while Galungan has a core meaning for self repair.
