PDAM -Regional Water Company- didn’t want to waste their time finding any water sources. Almost in every regions or cities in Bali, most of Regional Water Company sucked the underwater sources instead of processing shell water. The reason behind this was to evading conflict with the farmers and commonly high intensity budget when processing the shell water. Especially for Denpasar where the river is contaminate with quite high rate of pollution.

Main Director of Regional Water Company of Denpasar, Ir. I Putu Gede Mahaputra, M.M., on Tuesday (October 20th) assessed that they would maintain the use of underwater supply as its main water sources. The utilization of underwater supply for hygienic water necessity is due to the decreasing of shell water debit. Besides, the quality of shell water has questionable quality since most of them is polluted and makes their operational charge become higher.

Nowadays, Regional Water company of Denpasar serve 66.189 customers who need 2.372.096 meter per cubic a month. While there is waiting list for 6.067 people.

Mahaputra said that the water fulfillment have sources from shell water supply, underwater supply, and buy from other Regional Water Company. For august 2009, underwater supply that was sucked about 1.021.329 mete cubic or 398.62 liter per second. There are eighteenth points for well drill location. Meanwhile water that came from shell water sources reach 1.993.228 meter cubic. This shell water is come from processing installation of Ayung III in Blusung also water processing installation of Waribang First step. Regional Water Company of Denpasar also bought from other Regional Water Company of Gianyar and Regional Water Company of Badung also from PT Tirta Buanamulia. Total volume for this water purchasing from the third party reached 3.113.948 meter cubic or 1.219 liter per second.

Took from Underwater Sources

Underwater utilization in large scale is also conducted by Regional Water Company of Jembrana due to conflict with subak society in Jembrana. Director of Regional Water Company, I Nengah Dugianta said that this year this company had added water supply for other two points.

After tariff rising last month now Regional Water Company profits reach Rp 850 million per month. But still lose out since the electrical charge was Rp 250 million per month and company tax is for about Rp 9 million not to mention about treatment expense also.

In the other hand, Badung, besides Regional Water Company, the company also sucks underwater supply. On September 2009, there are 247 owners of Taking Underwater Supply Authorization or Shell Water supply. From that amount, almost all of them under the authorization of businessman as for hotel, villa, restaurant, apartment or public company located in tourism area like Kuta, South Kuta and North Kuta. Whereas in Abiansemal, Mengwi and Petang, underwater supply authorization is under Regional Water Company of Badung and Commercial Water Company and Package Water Company.

According to the Head of Mining and Energy Department of Dinas Karya Cipta Badung, Putu Wiarka on Tuesday (October 20th), the effect of underwater tax ascending was complained by the businessman. “But still the underwater supply remained as the target ones,” he said.
