Poverty and Ten Months Baby Transmigration

December 11th, 2009

This is the real portrait for the effect of poverty in Nusa Penida. They merely have a very small opportunity to change their living standard, 22 family’s head (74 people) willingly or not have to transmigrate and left their ancestor’ land. They transmigrate to the Middle Sulawesi.

Not forget for the babies whom there is ten months baby among them. What else they can said, if poverty already tied them tight even a baby couldn’t free from its impact.

22 families or for about 74 people of Nusa Penida including within it are 25 families (85 people) coming from Satara village (1 family), Gelgel village (1 family) and Banjar Pande Kota, Semarapura Klod Kangin (1 family) . They will be situated in UPT Wosu SP 2, Bahoerekkoreko village, Bungku Barat district, Morowaly regency of Middle Sulawesi. Pick up and dismissal will be conducted on Thursday, December 10th in Banjar Bisa after those from Nusa Penida crossing the strait.

Not too many officials who came and dismiss those people. From Klungkung government itself there is only First Assistance of Regency Secretariat, Ida Bagus Nengah Garga, Head of Social Labour and Transmigration, I Komang Susana. While from Bali Provincial Government itself there was Surojo who represented his institution. There was no lot of ceremonial procession, the officers merely give standard message so those who transmigrate could maintain their teamwork and respected the local culture as well as maintain their hard work.

Although they already old but they do have passion to change their condition through this transmigration. But still the bitter atmosphere was unavoidable. How it couldn’t be like that if 10 months baby should transmigrate also due to her parents poverty.

Among those babies, there is Putu Edi Irawan, son from the spouse of Ni Ketut Masir and I Wayan Sudiarta from Batukandik. There is also Kadek Nindilaputri, the daughter of I Ketut Yasa and Ni Wayan Karma from Batumadeg. “We hope we will always healthy so we could change our destiny,” said I Ketut Yasa, father of Kadek Nindilawati, that ten months baby.

From NusaBali observation, some of those kids were sleeping in their mother’s arm. After that simple ceremony, 25 families (85 people) including their babies rode the vehicles that had been prepared to go to their transmigration location in Sulteng.
