Salt Farmer Unable to Produce

Different with Nusa Penida people whom gladly welcoming the rain, most of people in Klungkung just get confused. Especially for those who lived at the shore and has a profession as a salt farmer. It is due to the rain the salt farmers unable to produce salt.
One of those farmers who could not produce anything is Ketut Kaping (48 years) from Banjar Rame, Kusamba. When met in his place for producing salt on Wednesday (December 30th) yesterday, that salt farmer who under an organization called Kelompok Sri Segara I confessed that he was unable to produce since a week ago. The same thing also happened to at least 30 members of Kelompok Sri Segara I.
Usually he could produce 15 kilogram of super type salt and 10 kilograms second class type of salt.” Said Kaping while mentioned that super type salt from his organization is usually receives order from America and Australia.
“For super type salt people should pay Rp 10 thousand per kilogram. Meanwhile the second class type of salt is Rp 7 thousand/kilogram and its marketing area merely in Bali,” he added.
That father of two sons mentioned that all this time, there is only little concerns from the government toward salt farmer. He mentioned that last year Udayana University once gave them seawater pump puller.
Unfortunately, that pump could not utilize well since it was not strong enough. Furthermore, it also contains rust. “Honestly, we wish for some assistance from regional government. For instance is rubber assistance for salt shelter,” said Kaping who has doing this job for about 20 years.
Meanwhile, in normal condition, members of Kelompok Petani Garam Segara I receive salt order once or two times a week. With amount of order for about 1-1.5 ton. “To fulfill that order all members need to help each other,” said Kaping.
