ATM Burglary in Bali

The victims for ATM Burglary of several Banks in Bali keep increase. Nowadays it has been around 15 to 20 people including within it are foreigners from America and Russia.
“At first it merely 13 people but today it has increase as for 15 to 20 victims reported to us,” said Kabid Humas Polda Bali, Kombes Pol Gde Sugianyar in Kuta Badung on Wednesday.
Those victims are the customer of BCA Bank, Permata Bank and BNI Bank. Most of them are local people though there are foreigner from America and Russia who also become the victim. Then, according to Sugianyar explanation, number of report came into their office was varied in location, some reported in Kuta Police Office, others were in Denpasar as well as Direktorat Reskrim Polda Bali.
“Since the places varied makes us could not mentioned the total number of the victim yet. Temporarily, it was around 15 to 20 victims. In other word it get increase from the original number that merely 13 victims,” said Sugianyar after socialized UU No 2/2009 about traffic and road transportation.
In relation with the total money stealth form that burglarized still could not verified due to its varied number. “The amount is different each other, starting from five million up to tens of millions Rupiah,” he explained.
His party has been already coordinated with “cyber crime” team and with the Bank itself related to the further investigation of this case.
Sugianyar said that this kind of crime had once happened outside the country. The culprit used kind copying tool installed into the ATM machine which could hack the data in the ATM card including their PIN number when the victim carrying out their transaction.
“It is possible to the same modus to be happened here especially with the lack of security in our ATM machine locations. One example here is the absence of CCTV,” he said.
Therefore, Kabid Humas urged for the people not to panic but immediately check their account balance as well as change their PIN code regularly.
Besides, for those who usually used internet banking transaction should aware with this kind of facility, especially when typing bank web address. “It’s important to avoid hackers who make sites with an appearance just like the bank site,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of BCA Hassanudin operational, Paulus Mudjiangtoro said that it was the first time such ATM burglary crime which happened almost simultaneously in several bank in Bali.
He also said that his party has coordinated with BCA central related to this issue. “This problem becomes authority of the central,” he said.
According to him, the victim whose money lost had received the amount of money get stealth.
When asked about the number of customers who reported their lost as well as the number of money that had already paid, Paulus confessed that he does not know the exact number but for the number of victim is about 15 people, and that number were those who did not reported the case to the police office.
“We will commit ourselves not to adverse the customers,” he said.
