Bali Coffee is still the Belle

January 28th, 2010

Kopi-Bali

Coffee always becomes the most popular product in Bali. However, with the new regulation that strict the quota of raw material export would limit coffee marketing. But in another side it will benefit the Bali’s coffee farmer and producer.

With that quota restriction, means the farmers as well as coffee producer in Bali will receive lots, starting from workers up to the price regulation. Former marketing make the raw state of Bali’s coffee cause foreigner parties as those who would determine the price.

Considering to its large fans, either inside the country especially in regional community or outside the country, Bali’s coffee valued to has the same taste and smell with coffee production from Latin which has already known worldwide. In Bali, Arabica and Robusta become the main production and lots of them planted at North Bali area. Meanwhile, the data in Disperindag Bali – Trade and Industry Division of Bali Province – mentioned coffee as Bali’s reliable product besides vanilla and tuna fish.

Data in 2009 showed that Bali’ coffee production nationally was able to fulfill the consumer needs especially the local needs. However, when it confirmed to the head of Disperindag Bali, Gede Darmaja, he still could not mentioned the complete data yet.

“I’m sorry, I did not bring the complete data with me,” said Darmaja to Nusa Bali but still he confessed that coffee still become the superior product besides vanilla and tuna fish.

According to him also known that from that coffee production also comes huge number of local income. It occurs for domestic marketing as well as with the outside the country marketing, especially in Bali itself.
Meanwhile, Indonesian coffee, especially Robusta still has stable position at international level. Macro data showed that coffee valued as one of inelastic product toward income. Coffee global consumption is about 128 million bags in 2008 with 2 percent enhance prospect per year along with the population rising in the world. For Robusta coffee until today still dominated by Vietnam and Indonesia. Due to the bad weather, Robusta will be sell around 1.75 US Dollar and 1.8 US Dollar in 2010.

From the global observation, it is showed that national coffee has a good potential the same with Bali’s coffee. Thought, nationally the existence of Bali’s coffee still within the limit of local marketing but many of them has been already explore world marketing. If coffee quota prohibition could be realized then it will affect employment opportunities. Means, local coffee will be produced and harvested in their respective area and would not be sold in raw state.

From the production data recently, coffee sold in raw state precisely give quite good price, yet the new quota prohibition regulation indeed will reduce unemployment rate since the whole production process will be conducted outside the region. Thus, will make the result undergone price raising to tens of times.
