Taxi Driver Demonstration at Bali Regional Legislature

Hundred of taxi drivers return to the Bali regional legislature in Denpasar yesterday voicing their voice demanding for the revocation of 500 taxi units given to the PT Bali Praja Transportasi.

Speaker of Paguyuban Jasa Wisata Bali, Gusti Putu Daging said that the arrival of those taxi drivers to the Regional Legislature asked for the government promise concerning the new taxi authorization cancelation or revocation that used the name Bali Taksi/Blue Bird.

“We come here to ask for government’ promise. We demand for the government canceling that 500 taxi fleet authorization,” said Gusti Putu Daging.

The members of Regional Legislature received that group of demonstrators; they are Ni Made Sumiati, Wayan Kari Subali, Ketut Mandia and Budi Hartawan.

Sumiati said, the council had tried their best in facilitating and ask for the government canceling their principal authorization in relation of 500 taxi units mobilization.

“We ask for the government firmly revoked the license of that 500 taxi units,” he asserted.

The reason is with the operation of 250 units from those 500 units of principal authorization given by the government cause the taxi drivers’ income who had operated long length of time decrease.

After hearing the explanation from the council party, those drivers then went to the Bali Transportation, Communication and Information Agency office.

As soon as they arrived at the office, the head of Transportation Agency, Made Santha, received demonstrator delegations from several taxi companies.

Those demonstrators came from Ngurah Rai taxi company, Kowindu and Jimbaran Taxi Company.

Whilst the meeting between taxi driver delegation with the head of Transportation Agency, Made Santha, still ongoing, hundreds of taxi drivers waited at the office yard located in Jalan Cok Agung Tresna Denpasar.
Meanwhile, Public Relationship of Bali Taksi, Nyoman Mertadi in his short message sent to ANTARA confessed his concern toward taxi condition nowadays in Bali.

Bali Taksi that is part of Blue Bird Group become the target of issue once mentioned did not has legal basis. Whilst, Bali Taksi is the “brand” name from Service Company of PT Praja Bali Taksi (PBT) that is legal in law point of view.

According to Nyoman Mertadi, his company already has the authorization for taxi transportation service from Bali Governor No.551.21/4570/Bina.Ek dated April 19, 1994.

He also said that Bali Taksi had received not conducive actions and experience demand derivation around 30 percent. Thus make Bali Taksi urging for all parties could hold themselves and waiting for provincial government, council as well as Bali Transportation Agency solve the problem.

“We have to obey the government regulation and decision. We also have to keep Bali image as the best tourism destination ever with raising our transportation service quality,” said Nyoman Mertadi.
