PHDI Urged for Ogoh-Ogoh Nyepi Parade in Order

Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI) Bali – Hindu’s highest council in Indonesia – urged for Hindu, especially for its young generation at “Pengrupukan” night on March 15, 2010 or a day before the holy day Nyepi Caka 1932 concerning Ogoh-Ogoh (big doll paraded around the village) parade to conduct it orderly.

“Ogoh-ogoh parade hoped could run in order with some security from village as well as from institution officials,” said the head of PHDI Bali, I Gusti Ngurah Sudiana, M.Si., in Denpasar on Friday.

That kind of condition is needed in order to keep conducive atmosphere and get rid of unwanted event to take place.

An effort to keep conducive atmosphere becomes very important in Bali considering in the beginning of May 2010 there will be four regent/vice regent and major/vice major election in the island.

Thus make the fourth regencies/city conducted the election at “Pengrupukan” night becomes more aware and careful with the friction between the mass of regent/major candidate supporters.

Sudiana also reminded that in the making of ogoh-ogoh, it should dressed polite and reflected esthetic values. That ogoh-ogoh parade around banjar, village or city at ‘pengrupukan’ night should not offend anybody, no sponsor message and no pornography. Ogoh-ogoh should be in the form of “Bhuta kala” – monster – so it will walk side by side with the meaning of “ngerupuk” means nature as well as power and negative effect neutralization from “Bhuta kala” or invisible creature.

Thus, hoped the world will clean and free from every disturbance or from evil creature and evil spirit said Sudiana.

Nyepi day that is fall on Tuesday, March 16th 2010 where Hindu’s is obligated to conduct “Tapa Brata” penyepian that is four restrictions that should be done for one day full.

Those four prohibitions cover no light (amati geni), no activity/no work (amati karya), no traveling (amati lelungan) and no recreation or no fun (amati lelanguan).

“Catur brata penyepian should be watched strictly be the village securities or known as pecalang under the coordination of local prajuru banjar – local village’s officials – ” said Gusti Sudiana.
