Bali Taxi is Legal

February 25th, 2010

Assistance II Bali Province, Ketut Wija announced the result from the Justice Team that the existence of Bali Taxi under Praja Bali Transportasi Company is legal. That Justice Team consists people from Transportation Agency, Communication and Information, Law Bureau, Economic and Development Bureau, Local Public Transportation Organization, Criminal Detective Directorate of Bali Police, Poltabes Denpasar, Commission I of Bali Council and Bali Development Institution.

This conclusion delivered by the head of the team Ketut Wija on Wednesday (February 24). The announcement takes place at the meeting room of Economic and Development Bureau, one day before the deadline of the team’s duty period over. Those who attend the meeting were the head of Commission I Bali Council, Made Arjaya and his vice Gusti Putu Widjera; head of Bali Transportation, Information and Communication Agency, Made Santha; Head of Law Bureau, Eka Wijaya Wardana; head of Economic and Development Bureau, Wayan Tegeg. There were also members of Local Public Transportation Organization, taxi company operators, delegation from Paguyuban Jasa Wisata Bali, Polices as well as several reporters.

Wija said that based on the team examination, the granting for new taxi authorization for about 930 units have no trouble. It does not against the law and not discriminative. Principal authorization is given to the PT Praja Bali Transportasi for 500 units, 80 units for Ngurah Rai Taksi, Komotra for 100 units, Kowinu for 75 units, Wahana Darma for 100 units and for Koperasi Taksi Jimbaran for 75 units.

According to Wija, the team also agreed to delay the remaining operational authorization until the situation calming down, except for the principal authorization that has out already for about 250 taxis unit belongs to PT Praja Bali Transportasi and 100 units for Ngurah Rai Taxi.

Comission Head I Made Arjaya commented that this team decision is the best result they could achieve. He viewed the core of this problem is the miscommunication and miss coordination between operator and the driver.

“The Operator could not open mindedly tell the drivers that they want to ask for new principal authorization makes the driver feels that their income keep decrease with the appearance of the new taxis,” said Arjaya.

Vice of Organda Bali, Ketut Widi welcoming well that decision. Only the delegation from Paguyuban Jasa Wisata Bali that could not accepted that examination result. PJWB coordinator, Ketut Witra keep persisted for the Blue Bird authorization pulled off since they have no legal operator.

“I insist for the additional authorization for Praja Bali Transportation canceled,” he said enthusiastically without mentioned the legal basis for it.

That comment received respond from the vice head of Organda Bali Ketut Widi. He did not agree with just canceled the authorization lightly. “Our member had already ordered for the new car credit as far as there are members who had paid for down payment then if there is fleet cancelation then those who will have biggest loss. We also want our voice to be heard not only the drivers,” as Arjaya complained. Arjaya also commented that operational authorization that had already given is impossible to be canceled since the provincial government could be drag into the court.

Ketut Wija said not all of PJWB demands fulfilled since it will against the law. “Especially for the legality cancelation, we could not fulfilled it because we will face against the law moreover, from the documents that is under our examination, Bali Taksi is indeed a legal fleet,” he said.

Feels the Justice Team could not fulfilled their wish; three paguyuban delegations chose to leave the meeting. Furthermore, Justice Team will report that taxi case to the Bali Governor. “We will report this problem as soon as possible so it will over soon,” said Wija.
