Even though become the most famous tourism destination and have thousand of tourism accommodation, until today Badung still has no a management organization such as Perhimpunan Hotel dan Restauran Indonesia (PHRI). Lot parties viewed it as an unfortunate condition based upon PHRI role to build tourism sector. Then, a pressure for PHRI Badung to soon develop begins to raise.

This, as been asserted by Head of Badung Council, I Made Sumer who asked for Badung government not stand still and immediately facilitating the development of PHRI Badung that is suspended since few years ago.

“Badung as the main destination in Bali even in Indonesia does not have PHRI. It is not clear the problem is, but it is natural for Badung to oblique has it,” Sumer asserted on Monday (March 22).

For all along, said Sumer, PHRI Badung merely has Plt head with limited space and development. “PHRI has a very important role. It could manage hotel and restaurant standard and leads to no tariff war,” Sumer explained. Further he explained that he had delivered this problem to head of PHRI Bali, Artha Ardana Sukawati who promised to facilitating the development of PHRI Badung before Nyepi. But, in fact, until today there is no sign of such development.

In another side, Badung government through Tourism Agency said that PHRI is a profession organization. The government could not force their way since it needs awareness from hotel and restaurant owners themselves.

“The government only a partner, but still the existence of PHRI is very important,” said Subawa who also said that he did not want to intervene. Meanwhile, commotion spread out in concern with those who will be elected as head of PHRI Badung. They are Nyoman A. Ardana SE, Made Rudika MPar, and Nyoman Graha Wicaksana. People say that the election for head of Badung PHRI will begin on April.

Data from Infrastructure department of Badung Tourism Agency up to December 31, 2009, there were 94 stars hotels in Badung with 15.350 rooms, 455 jasmine hotel, cabins with 1.983 rooms, 7 condominium with 775 rooms and 31 rent houses with 513 rooms.

Then there are 277 restaurants with 25.281 seats, 457 restaurants with 27.188 sets and 345 bars as for 11.452 seats. All of this tourism business should have joined under one umbrella of PHRI.
