The King Villa at Taman Sukasada Ujung

Karangasem Regency of Bali province has one historical heritage from an old kingdom era. It was Taman Ujung Sukasada. This is the villa from an old time when the kings gloriously rule over Karangasem and nowadays become one of favorable tourism object in East Bali.

Taman Ujung Sukasada tourism object is located in Ujung area of Tumbu Village, Karangasem Regency. This tourism park is the relic for the glory of Karangasem Kingdom in Bali, located only 85 kilometers away from east of Denpasar.

Entering this tourism object, domestic or local tourists charge Rp 4000 per person for one ticket. Meanwhile foreign tourists charge Rp 10.000 per ticket.

At this nine hectares park, the visitor could see the beauty of the park, artificial pond as well as some hall buildings built in the middle of the pond. Some of them built with combination architecture of Bali, China and Dutch.

One of the most interesting hall attracts most of visitor, is Balai Gili or Balai Kambang. At this hall, the tourists can see number of pictures of Karangasem King together with the royal member pictures. There are also old pictures of this Taman Ujung.

At the hall once used as the resting place for King and his royal member, the people could see King’s antique bed as well as the family room completed with its furniture.

Satisfied seeing Gili and Kambang hall, the visitor can look around Kapal Hall located above the altitude. In order to reach Kapal hall that remain in ruin, the visitor should step on the ladder.

Kapal Hall position at the plateau makes the visitors could see the whole area of this Taman Ujung park.
“If the weather is clear, from this Kapal Hall the visitor could see the view of Mount Agung, Blue Ocean up to the Mount Rinjani in Lombok,” explained Nyoman Werdhi Astawa, the manager officer of Taman Ujung.

Taman Ujung Sukasada Karangasem was built in 1901 by Anak Agung Gede Djelantik, the Karangasem King at that time. The development of this kingdom park then continued stage by stage by the king’s successor until finished in 1937.

“This park once was a place for Karangasem King and his family to rest. The park also became a place to entertain the royal guest,” explained Nyoman.

In 1963, this royal park damaged due to the Mount Agung eruption. In 1976, the damage worsen after Seririt earthquake in Buleleng.

“It’s worse condition make the park neglected for a long time, afterward, starting from 1998, Taman Ujung Sukasada Karangasem gradually repaired by the government,” said Nyoman.

In 2004, the damage Taman Ujung finished its rehabilitation and reopened. Nowadays, this park is one of the favorite tourism objects in East Bali area.
