Tabanan Tanah Lot Festival
Management institution for Tanah Lot tourism object in Tabanan Bali will held “Tanah Lot Art Festival” (TLAF) starting from July 26 to August 1st 2010.
Head of Tanah Lot Management Institution Made Sujana in Tabanan on Thursday says art and cultural exhibition will be held for seven days involved at least 3.000 local artists.
“TLAF activity in 2010 will carrying ‘poleng’ as its theme, inspire by black and white holy snake believe guarding Luhur Tanah Lot Temple. And that snake has been recognized since the temple initial establishment,” he said.
He said that TLAF is part of their effort in preserving ancient cultural heritage as well as introducing it to the international world. Together with it, this festival also could stand as promotional media for Tanah Lot as a tourism object.
“We trying hard to give space and chance for Tabanan artist expressing themselves, whether they comes from traditional drum artist or dance artist background, either in term of painting or sculpture, we welcome everything, which of course bring beneficial side effect; attract more tourists to come to Bali,” he said.
Generally, Sujana said, TLAF is part of art and cultural activity, which will covers cultural parade held in the opening day.
This cultural parade followed by 10 districts in Tabanan regency that begins with opening dance describing the meaning of “Poleng” philosophy in Tanah Lot.
Those tens district participants will performing each of their art potential with different creations illuminating the uniqueness of each areas.
“WE also will performing varied classical dances in Tabanan rarely perform in front of the tourists. Among them are Barong Rentet, Baris Memedi, Joged Bumbung, Mebarung, Arja Classic, Baris Gede Combined with Tektekan, Leko Dance, Bebarongan, Prembon and Telek Dance,” explained Sujana.
According to him, the new performance carried by this TLAF is “Klepon Festival” as part of Tanah Lot culinary festival in which this kind of traditional sweet has been famous in Bali up to reach worldwide attention.
“We try to performing this sweet as well as motivating people to make some innovation for the klepon making,” he said.
Sujana also added that kite festival would keep continued in order to enliven this cultural festival. Tanah Lot Kite Festival will take “Giant Kite Show” as its theme.
“That activity is part of young generation creation in Bali in creating unique and attractive kite. Every year, the participants for this festival always booming makes us need to limit it into 700 participants only this year,” said Sujana.
