25% Did Not Pass Emission Test

Denpasar is a big city stand as the center of economic movement in Bali. Thus, make its community mobility becoming high especially from those motor driving.

The effect of high rates of vehicle is generating high levels of pollution also. Denpasar government through Badan Lingkungan Hidup – Environmental Institution – conducted various steps in order to reduce pollution starting from greening and emission test as well as controlling polluting vehicles through Transportation Agency of Denpasar.

This time, Badan Lingkungan Hidup held emission test for vehicles at Kompyang Sujana field, on June 22.

Head of Pollution Control division of Badan Lingkungan Hidup Denpasar, Alit Sudibya says the government of Denpasar Capital keep trying their best reducing high air pollution rate in Denpasar and one of them will be this emission test right on the dense traffic line such as at Kompyang Sujana.

“Through this emission test, we also want to campaigning clean air whilst inviting the rider or driver to take care of their vehicles so it would not emit pollution,” said Sudibya.

This activity held continuously and for today, Sudibya confessed that they strayed 300 vehicles. Before, coincide with World Environmental Day, the same activity was conduct at Lumintang Field.

From 32 cars and 25 motor cycles, 75 percent of them pass the emission test. Emission threshold for vehicles according to the Kepmen LH No.05 years 2006 is 12000 HC (ppm) or CO 4.5 percent for motor cycle in category 2 meanwhile for motor cycle in category 4 is 2400 HC (ppm) of CO 5.5 percent.

For vehicles with gasoline under 2007 its emission threshold is 1200 HC (ppm) or CO 1.5 percent. And for vehicle with solar Sudibya added the opacity is 70 percent.

For vehicle, which did not pass standard emission test, Sudibya urge them to always take care of it so that vehicle would not emitting air pollution.

“In this process we are limited only to urge those vehicle owners also participating in protecting air cleanliness from pollution,” Sudibya hoped.

One owner of Mitsubishi Colt 20SS produced in 2009, I Gede Sukadana whose vehicle did not pass the emission test confessed that he never done complete service to it.

With this emission test result conducted by Denpasar government, Sukadana finds it helpful as he could know his car condition and soon would bring it to the car shed. He hope this kind of activity will be conducted frequently since makes the people aware with their vehicle condition.
