June 29th, 2010

Rain on Denpasar, Bali and its surrounding since Saturday night to Sunday in the morning cause number of roads turn into river.

Those roads puddle have depth around 15 to 25 centimeters due to the gutter that could not able to accommodate rainwater volume, thus, as reported by ANTARA Denpasar.

This condition getting worse when one of the channel stuck by waste made the incoming flow of water rose onto the surface of the highway, meanwhile the water volume at Badung River, which flow splited Denpasar City, also seemed rising.

At Monang-Maning national public housing of West Denpasar, road and gutter covered by water. Consequently, several motor riders fell into the gutter since they find it hard to see the road clearly.

Sulaeman (23) from Banyuwanig, East Java who fell into the gutter together with his motor confessed that he did not know the gutter position since the flood covered the entire road.

“I don’t know where exactly the gutter is, and it was my first time went through this area,” he said.

The flood also caused traffic jam even though there was merely small number of vehicles passing by this road.

Number of houses on the riverbank also soaked even though no casualties fall.

Several Denpasar cleaning service officers completed with trucks are mobilize to clean the gutters from waste.

The gutter full of waste is the result of people lack of awareness for throwing waste in its proper place. Even the people live along Badung river intentionally thrown waste into the river despite the fact that this river water volume frequently increase highly when rainy season.

Other people thrown waste into other small rivers in Denpasar makes caused the channel blocked.
That condition makes city’s cleaning officers have to work extra dealing with the flood caused by waste in the sewage drain.
