Salt production from Karangdadi Village, Klungkung Regency Bali recorded has been able to break some international market such as in Japan and America.

“Our salt production has been able to penetrate international marketing but unfortunately the government concern in this matter is still negligible instead of the fact that we need to raise our production,” said head of Salt Farmer Group Sri Segara Klungkung, I Ketut Kaping in Semarapura on Wednesday.

He mentioned that although the salt production from his party has already penetrate Japan and America market but there is no urge from the government to raise the production lately.

It result in, he continued, the salt production from his group becomes monotone and even hard to develop.

Ketut Kaping mentioned, once there was fund assistance from the government but when it arrived into the hand of the farmer, the amount was minimal.

“That condition totally could not help the salt farmer. Moreover, before there was another assistance from Udayana University, a manual pomp machine to lift up the sea water but that machine is not functioning at all since it cannot lift the sea water,” he said.

Nowadays, Kaping continued, his party need mats for drying salt considering its hard to find old coconut wood or thick plastic mat for that.

“The problem here if we use young coconut wood and plastic that is not thick enough, it will perforate fast and reduce our production,” he said.

In regard with it, he continued, his party hoped the government could give fund or equipment needs by the salt farmer.

A man who comes from Banjar Rame Kusamba Village confessed that it has already 20 years he pursue salt farming.

When the weather is in normal, nine acres land of this farmer could produce 25 kilogram dry salt. From that 25 kg salt, 10 kg of them is common salt and the remaining 15 kg is super salt.

“This super salt production does who could break through Japan and America market due to its natural and not polluted quality in addition to its extremely white color,” he said.

According to the report received from foreign consumer all this time, Kaping says that his party’s salt has been able to surpass Japan and America traditional salt production as well as with other countries in the world.

In concern with the production result, Kaping mentioned that it will directly send to salt merchant at Jumpai village subsequently sent to Japan and America.

“One kilogram super salt sold for IDR 10.000 whilst the delivery achieved 800 to 1.500 kilogram,” he explained.

This production, Kaping said, done once in two weeks. “If there is lots of order, our group which consists of 15 family’s heads always gets overwhelmed producing the salt,” he said.

Unfortunately, the farmer who merely has crude equipment usually find them could not produce the salt if the rain pours hard.
