Bali Garment Wake from its Long Sleep
Garment export or clothes produced by Balinese shine brighter in overseas market, although they got tough competition from neighbor countries such as Vietnam, China, Philippine and India.
“Overseas garment marketing in the beginning 2010 is more brightening as it is followed by the increasing of foreign exchange,” said head of Export Division at Trading and Marketing Agency of Bali Province, Putu Bagiada, S.E in Denpasar, Friday (July 16).
He mentioned, varied of Bali garment for instance knitting, embroidery and many other, can be shipped around 25 million of various types and forms for US $53.5 million during January to May 2010.
Foreign exchange raised 28 percent whilst the shipping volume increase 42.3 percent compared with five month before in 2009. It means Bali clothing starting to have good marketing overseas, he says.
The cloth design combine with Balinese culture cause the realization of clothes export from Bali keep running although it receive exposure from global economic crisis in the consumer countries or due to the Bali Bomb several years ago.
In another side, not merely garment export went through significant increase this year but also Bali small industry productions during the first five months period in 2010 is able to make US $ 81 million foreign exchange or escalated for 24.6 percent compared with last year result which was estimated for US $64.9 million. Small industry’s role in achieving Bali non-oil/gas foreign exchange reached 35.6 percent. It was quite an encouraging value. There are six varied of small industry which production recorded for overseas marketing such as canned fish, fixed home component from wood or bamboo, bag, slipper, plastic product and garment.
Clothes marketing become the biggest export production in small industry division that is followed by canned fish production which material comes from Jembrana. Canned fish resulting US $ 10.5 million from its 4.984 ton shipping for five months in 2010 as it showed 33.5 percent increasing number and 18 percent increasing volume compared with those in 2009 that was merely 4.192 ton or around US $7.8 million.
Bagiada said that varied stuffs made from plastic also brought US$10 million dollar foreign exchange from 11.6 million pieces from January to May 2010 or increased 60 percent for foreign exchange and 23 percent in volume as for 2009 it merely sold for 9.4 million pieces for US$6.2 million dollar. Shoes made from banana midrib, leather and fabric decorated with beads for youth consumer for around 689 thousand pieces or US$2.9 million dollar in its first five months in 2010, almost the same result in the same period in 2009.
Varied of bag produced by Balinese also sold for overseas marketing experienced declined for up to 65 percent in the beginning of 2010 which sol merely US$120 thousand for 60 thousands pieces shipping, compared to 2009 that reached US$342 thousand dollar.
