Hotel Development Moratorium
Badan Pariwisata Bali (BTB) – Bali Tourism Board – suggested the Bali Provincial Government to incorporate the moratorium policy or suspension for hotel development in Bali.
Local moratorium regulation against hotel development is needed so regencies/city would not again giving any authorization or preceding an authorization for hotel development in their area.
BTB viewed that moratorium policy for hotel development issued by Bali Governor in term of suggestion for all along has no effect and has no law power. It also cause all regents or mayor ignore that governor suggestion.
Head of BTB, Ngurah Wijaya in his statement in Sanur (August 8th) said that moratorium is one of solutions, even though investor interest to invest in Bali is big.
“All people want to have business in Bali, all people also want to have accommodation in Bali, and now there should be limitation,” said Ngurah Wijaya.
Ngurah Wijaya stating that it has time for hotel development in Bali get limitation, in regard with Bali support and capacity ability. One of the support ability is clean water supply and electrical power.
Moreover, number of rooms of hotels in Bali has enough already. According to the data from Bali Tourism Agency, there are 46.000 rooms already in Bali.
