One of the reasons of why does the Bali Provincial government keep giving authorization for hotel development in the island is in order to achieving the target for local income increase.
That is the reason for those regencies/city in Bali ignored moratorium suggestion for hotel development even though the governor has voiced it since 1993.
Bali Governor, Made Mangku Pastika asserted that in the future, in order to hold off hotel development in Bali, he would not conduct moratorium policy. Instead, he will form rearrangement for hotel development in Bali so it would not centralize on south coastal area of the island only.
“Perhaps not in term of moratorium policy but then to rearrangement, it is due to the regencies or city in Bali who’d like to increase their local income,” said the Bali Governor.
Governor Mangku Pastika stated that the rearrangement for hotel development probably the best way out since most of the permission granting process for hotel development is rest on the hand of regencies/city in Bali.
Previously, Badan Pariwisata Bali (BTB) – Bali Tourism Board – who suggested to the Bali Provincial Government to comprise the moratorium policy for hotel development into the legal law of Bali Provincial. It is considering number of hotel rooms in Bali that more than enough, it reached 46.000 rooms.
