Turtle Conservation in Pudut Island

Aside from seeing varied tourism object with beautiful scenery and cultural art attraction, the tourist who come to Bali could also visiting the turtle conservation in the island. in this conservation site called as the turtle island, the tourist could watch the turtle preservation effort and big size rare turtle activity ages tens of years old.

Pudut Island known also as Turtle Island is located on the west coast of Tanjung Benoa, Badung Regency or around 40 kilometer to the south of Denpasar city.

In order to arrive at this island, the tourists should cross the Tanjung Benoa beach with motor boat for 15 minutes. It cost you 400 thousand Rupiah for one boat consist of 5 to 8 passengers.

During the traveling to the Island of Turtle, the tourists could see the beauty of Tanjung Benoa beach and witnessing it magnificent coral reef through the boat’s glass bottom. The tourist could also feed the fish along the way to the island.

After cost 15 minutes travel crossing the sea, the tourist would arrive on the Turtle Island, in this one hectare of land are the places for five turtle conservation locations that become the tourist attraction for this island.

At this island, the tourist could see two rare turtle that is green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea). Young and small turtle placed in some medium size pool.

If people would like to see big size turtle, they could see and touch it in a special cage made at coast. Big turtle live in this island has age range around 15 to 60 years old.

“Aside from seeing the big turtle, the tourist come to this island could also achieve some explanation about the turtle breeding process starting from it lay eggs process. Most of the turtle in this tourism conservation site is the result of preservation effort conduct in this island,” explained Nyoman Suada, one of the Turtle Island manager.

The ticket price is 5.000 Rupiah per person, everyday this island visited averagely by 100 to 200 tourists who are both domestic and foreigner.

“If holiday season come, the visitor come to the turtle island increased drastically up to thousand of them per day,” added Suada.
