The Bureau of Archeology Denpasar evacuated the skull of prehistoric human inside the sarcophagus, the coffin made by stone found in Subak Saba, Keramas Village, Blahbatuh region, Gianyar Residence, Bali. “We have research it for a week. This morning, we evacuate two sarcophagus, they are intact skeleton and the other one have became the bone flakes,” said Dra. Ayu Kusumati, the researcher from the Bureau of Archeology Denpasar in Gianyar.

According to Ayu Kusumati, the skeleton will be stored in the Bureau of Archeology Denpasar. “We will research the skeletons in Denpasar,” she said. The sarchopagus will be stored in the Bureau of the Perpetuation of Prehistoric Inheritance in Bedulu village, Blahbatuh. The Research Team of Sarcophagus in Keramas village lead by Dewa Kompyang Gede found two sarcophagus with different size in Subak Saba, Keramas village, Blahbatuh on Saturday (28/8)

“The first sarcophagus is the small type coffin with the length as much as 150 cm and the width as much as 50 cm. And the second one, it’s the bigger one with the length as much as 100 cm and the width as much as 112 cm,” said Dewa Kompyang Gede. The other thing found is the flake of old earthenware beside the skeleton which is buried lay face up.

“Meanwhile on the other sarcophagus just found the earthenware flask,” said the man who is on duty in the Bureau of Archeology Denpasar. He explained, in the intact skeleton identified it is male human. And the flask skeleton could not be researched. “The bone has scattered that makes it is difficult to identify the gender of the human who is buried lay face downward,” he said. The age of the sarcophagus estimated 2.000 until 2500 years ago.

These proved with the existence of protrusion in human face or the hole looks like turtles on the top of the sarcophagus,” he said. Otherwise its metal manufacture, it is also known the community self-help and the unity feeling.

“The purpose of the hole making on the top of the coffin means to give a way for the spirit to the other world,” he said. He explained if the buried using sarcophagus just only for the figure person in that age. “It is only for rich people and the figure person who used the kind of coffin,” he added.
