Jokowi who always favor exploring the traditional market, didn’t miss this chance when coming to Bali yesterday. Several traditional markets in Denpasar, Badung and Tabanan visited during his two days visit.

It can be said, Jokowi only speaks so little on stage to burn people spirit, the supporter of candidate Puspayoga and Sukrawan for Bali next governor election. He spent most of his time exploring the traditional markets.

After attended the healthy walks at the Monument of Struggle Bali in Denpasar, Jokowi went directly to animal market at Beringkit, Mengwi-Badung.

He was welcomed with enthusiasm from people in Beringkit Market. All tried to get close and shook hands with him. The same positive respond came from people in Kediri and Tabanan market. Seller and consumer of those traditional markets wish to shake hands or took picture of him.

Accompanied by candidate Vice Governor Sukrawan and Tabanan Regent Eka Wiryastuti, with pride Jokowi wore his trademark, a shirt with checkered motives, exploring the traditional market.

As campaigner, Jokowi didn’t talk much, just a smile and pointing his index finger “please choose number 1,” he said.

When he was asked his time spent mostly visiting the traditional markets rather than do speech on stage, mentioned that people today are smart and intelligent thus need no further promises.

“We shouldn’t give them promises after promises. People need concrete proves, a real one,” he said.

Republic of Indonesia Council Member, I Kadek Arimbawa, viewed the pointless effort to build new airport in North Bali since it will cost lots of land in Buleleng.

“It doesn’t mean that I personally rejected the plan to build new airport in Buleleng,” said the man who familiarly known as Lolak.

He thought of the future development should have used to develop other infrastructure for the region’s benefit. It can be in shape of monorail from Denpasar to Buleleng or make shortcut road from the two territories thus shortening the travelled distance.

“Airport development will cost the land, it will take hundreds to thousand hectares,” he said.

That number only for the main airport facility, not to count others supporting facilities needed.

He viewed, the development of establishing new airport in north of Bali, intended to make a new landing point for bigger plane to come to Bali was too forceful.

Bali has had its airport already. Bali’s neighbor also has international airport which bigger plan can use.

Tariff war has become public affair and is the scourge of hotel business in Bali. The way hotel businessmen drop their price in fact influenced the fallen of hotel rate occupancy. Moreover with the “cheap” tread left on Bali tourism. Indonesian Hotel and Restaurants Association or PHRI Bali recorded that star hotels occupancy rate reached only up to 54% while non-starred at 36%.

News from Bali Provincial Government to standardize room price rate gives fresh atmosphere for tourism world in Bali. Head of PHRI Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati hopes the standardization will be able to muffle the tariff war happened all this time.

“Regardless of the government plan, PHRI has started formulating at least the price range for hotel classification,” he said.

His party confessed their old difficulty to mute unhealthy hotel tariff war in Bali. They reasoned PHRI non involvement with hotels’ pricing consideration since beginning.

“At the beginning they will sweeten the words, saying budgetary hotel concept or saying their high room occupancy. Let just see the fact,” explained Cok Ace. Therefore his party will prioritize tariff as main component to determine the rate of stars will carry by each hotel.

Rate standardization will also be used to give penalty for every hotels who given rate under the rate issued by PHRI. “We will remind them and give them penalty, degrades their star predicate. Otherwise, nothing will befallen for those who sell their room higher than the standardize rate,” he added.

In relation with room standardization, this formerly Gianyar Regent is actually depending on the government determination to seriously realizing it. PHRI recorded 2,000 hotels under their flag and 167 of them are star hotels.
